Founded 85 years ago
by small group of mothers representing eight schools, has grown over the years
not only in size, but in purpose and strength.
Today, its membership proudly includes every public school PTA in
the borough of
Purposes - to promote
better understanding between home and school....over the years we have expanded
our purposes to involve the entire community in our education and this strength
has gained over the years in our cooperative efforts with all the components in
our community which enabled us to achieve tremendous strides on behalf of our
young people.
Achievements - provided a Shirlee
Solomon award to one 5th grade student at graduation from each Public
school for their academic improvement and community service and provides a
graphics calculator for one 8th grader of each Intermediate School
upon graduation and in helping students continue their educational careers the
Federation grants a $2,000 scholarship to one student from each Staten Island
High School and a Special Education student based on an essay contest; and also
gives a $500 scholarship to promote artistic talent to the student whose design
is chosen for the journal cover; and in the beginning of June, the entire
Staten Island Community comes together for this high profile event.
Federation has been successful due to the sacrifice of many of its leaders, and because of its inclusion of many, many hard working, interested and involved parents across Staten Island; Including Past Presidents of SIFPTA, Parent Support Officers, Current and Past Officers and Executive Board Members, Delegates, and Legislators who have joined together with Federation over the years in dedicating their energies and talents to the cause of quality education for the children of Staten Island.
